We have received a shipment of Hakata bento boxes and rice containers made by the 18th generation master of the art, Tamaki Shibata.

The Shibata family has been making Hakata bentwood for generations, with a history stretching back more than 400 years. In 2007, Mariko Shibata took on the name "Tamaki" and continues to preserve the traditions and techniques as the 18th generation Shibata Tamaki.

The lunch box and rice cooker are made of tightly packed, straight-grained cedar. Cedar's moisture-regulating properties absorb excess moisture and provide moderate moisture, so rice doesn't get sticky and has a rich flavor, making it delicious even when it cools down. In addition, because it is unpainted, it is breathable and the rice does not spoil easily. Cedar is also said to have antibacterial properties.

Please consider our recommended lunch boxes and rice cookers.
