Koichi Furuya / Furuya Pottery | Rough Edge Carving Coffee Cup This is a "Rough Rimmed Horizontal Carving Coffee Cup" by ceramic artist Koichi Furuya, whose studio is located in Shigaraki. The elegant and cute form and roughly carved comb pattern are attractive. The slightly rough texture is also great.

Shigaraki is known as a place that produces high-quality clay. The traditional techniques cultivated over a long history have been passed down to the present day. It is counted as one of the six ancient kilns of Japan.

Furuya Pottery has long been a leader in Shigaraki pottery. It enhances any dish and can be used freely and without hesitation. Every day, he works on creating elegant and warm "white powdered tableware."

Have a great time

A cute coffee cup with a round shape. The mouth of the cup is slightly curved, so the drink flows smoothly and it is very easy to drink. The white powdered finish and roughly carved comb patterns create a cute and elegant look. It goes well with any drink, not just coffee.

White ware made from powdered powder

Koichi Furuya's powdered pottery has a gentle, soft and very tasteful appearance. The clay is shaped into a shape using red clay, then coated with white decorative mud, glazed and fired. At Furuya Seitosho, we use our own blend of specially selected "soil" and "glaze." All our products are handmade.

Two firings

It is generally said that powder-glazed ware is weak and absorbent, making it prone to stains. For this reason, at Furuya Ceramics, we perform two firings, the final firing and the bisque firing. By doing this twice, the powder-drawn finish will remain intact, but its strength will increase and it will be less likely to stain. This process, which spares no effort or time, comes from Furuya's desire for people to "feel free to use lots of tableware that will enhance the flavor of their food."

[Commitment to white tableware] (Quoted from the Furuya Ceramics website)
White tableware brings out the best in any dish and can be used freely and generously. We work every day to create elegant and warm "powdered white Japanese tableware." Clay is essential in making "white Japanese tableware." We carefully cultivate our own unique clay, which we then use to mold on the potter's wheel and into tatara clay. The gentle, rustic earthenware flavor that peeks out from beneath the surface of the pottery gives it great depth. We hope you will use our Japanese tableware in your daily life and experience the warmth it exudes. If you enjoyed it, I would be more than happy.
