Dressmaking scissors Ishihiro Seisakusho has been making medical scissors for two generations since 1970. Our workshop is located in Sumida, Tokyo, where Edo traditions and culture live on. They are still made by hand, one by one, by second-generation scissors craftsman Akio Ishida.

The series of household items made for general household use, including "disassembly scissors" and "dressmaking scissors", This series began from Ishida's desire to "hear what our customers have to say" and "know our customers' reactions."

In 2011, it was certified as "Sumida Modern" as a regional brand product representing Sumida. * Sumida Modern is certified as a thread cutting scissors.

Thread cutting scissors made by a scissors craftsman Eyebrow cutting scissors

This product is recommended as both thread cutting scissors and eyebrow trimming scissors. The distance from the handle to the blade is slightly long, so it doesn't get in the way of your hand, making it very easy to use and cut with. Also, the tip of the blade is curved, so you can cut exactly where you want, even in small spaces.

The key to sharpness is the twist

"It can cut even without a blade," says Ishida, "The important thing is the bite." The scissors made by Ishida have an evenly cut inner blade that forms a smooth arc. He then adds a "twist" to the scissors, which is the key to their sharpness. This allows the cutting surfaces to meet at a single point, making it possible to cut with less force.

Dressmaking scissors [When closed, only the crimped parts are connected]

This process of interlocking the teeth is the most important, and requires the skill and experience of a craftsman, something that machines can never replicate. Ishida's scissors make use of the know-how he has cultivated in the manufacture of medical scissors, and are characterized by their smooth movement and the feeling of the blades sticking together when cutting.

Make a strong pair of scissors

To make strong scissors that are hard and resilient, we use stainless steel called "SUS420J2" that can be quenched. They are quenched at 1030 degrees for 2 hours and then tempered at 180 degrees to make them very strong. Stainless steel is rust-resistant, and is hard and resilient, so you can use these scissors for a long time. Dressmaking scissors
