Natto bowl by Tomoya Kato of "Yamashitakatouen"
Founded in 1794, Yamatada Katouen has been making mortars for generations, with a focus on Takada ware, which is counted among the varieties of Mino ware. The "Hamon Kushime" mortar, which took about nine years of research and refinement to complete, won the Good Design Award. We would like to introduce you to a special dish made specifically for natto, created by Kato Tomoya, the seventh generation owner of the kiln. You can choose from three colors: straw white, iron black, and straw gray.Click here for a list of Yamashitakatouen products

Beautiful form with functionality
A beautifully shaped natto bowl that will brighten up your dining table just by having it there. It has a slightly larger spout to make it easier to pour the natto into. The natto does not spread over the edges of the bowl, so it looks neat when served on the table. This beautiful natto bowl can also be used as a container for dressings or small mixed dishes.Soft and delicious natto
The inside of the bowl has grooves carved into it, just like a mortar, and these uneven surfaces create a small gap between the natto and the bowl, allowing just the right amount of air to get in when mixing, resulting in fluffy, mild, and delicious natto. It is easy to hold, stable, and easy to mix."Aoto" soil, suitable for natto pots
Takada-yaki, one of the Mino-yaki varieties, is made from blue soil called Aoto. Blue soil is highly durable, and when fired, it loses almost all water absorption. In addition, the soil has a rough texture, which provides good friction and makes the natto fluffy and mild, with fewer baking times.Size for 2 packs
It is large enough to hold two packs of commercially available natto. It's large enough that you can add ingredients such as condiments and mix them together without any stress.[Yamatada Katoen]
The shop name "Yamatada" was chosen by the first Tobei in 1794, when he branched off from the family and was conscious of the idea of "creating something from nothing." "Creating something from nothing" starts with making everything, starting with the kiln and the kiln tools. "Knowing Takada's clay well," and "originality and innovation." This is the philosophy that has been passed down to each Tobei and is the origin of the "Yamatada" brand.
[Kato Tomoya]
He is the seventh generation owner of Yamatada Katoen Tobeigama. After about nine years of development, he created an innovative mortar with a ripple pattern that swirls from the center. This ripple pattern mortar won the Good Design Award. He is also an active artist, having won numerous awards at exhibitions, including the grand prize at the international pottery contest Chozo Prize Exhibition.
