In addition to bentwoods, lacquerware is also produced in Shiojiri, Nagano Prefecture, and Kiso lacquerware is also designated as "Traditional Crafts" by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Kiso trees grow slowly in the cold region, and are famous nationwide for their fine, dense, high-quality wood.
