Mortar with a Spout and No Grooves

Unlike typical mortars with grooves, the interior of this mortar has no grooves. Instead, it features a unique finish with a rough, fine texture. This texture allows for effective grinding even without grooves. Since there are no grooves for food to get stuck in, you can grind ingredients without stress and remove them cleanly. It's also very easy to clean after cooking. Besides sesame seeds and spices, it can smoothly grind nuts and sticky ingredients like yam. The soft hue of the matte white porcelain and its elegant appearance make it perfectly suitable for serving the ground ingredients directly on the table as a dish.

Crush, Grind, Mix, and Pour

Thanks to its spouted shape, you can directly pour grated ingredients or dressings. The deep bowl is also easy to use for mixing and blending, fulfilling the roles of a "mortar + bowl + pouring vessel" all in one, allowing you to "crush, grind, mix, and pour." This mortar is useful for a wide range of dishes, both Japanese and Western, and even desserts, allowing you to go from preparation to serving seamlessly.

The pestle is made from teak wood, considered one of the world's three finest hardwoods. Teak's natural high oil content gives it excellent durability and ease of handling. After graduating from the Faculty of Law at Fukuoka University, Katsufumi Baba traveled to France. Upon returning to Japan, he completed the small-scale pottery wheel course at the Shigaraki Ceramic Research Institute, then trained at Shigaraki Maruju Kiln and Shigaraki Sotsuchi Kiln. In 2003, he established his own studio in his hometown of Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture. He continues to create pottery with passion, guided by the motto "Simple and long-lasting." His reputation has grown, attracting and charming many people, making him very popular.
